Dishwasher FAQs

  • How to clean my dishwasher?
If you use your dishwasher regularly, food waste, grease, and dishwasher detergent residues may accumulate in the machine. Therefore, regular cleaning is necessary. Whether it is a built-in or a free-standing dishwasher, the filter needs to be cleaned first as it is where odour's generated and dirt's built up. To clean the filter, please remove it from the dishwasher, soak in warm soapy water for 10 minutes and then put it back to the appliance.

After that, pour a cup of white vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher and start the intensive dishwashing program. White vinegar helps to deodorize and clean the machine. If a deeper cleaning is needed, you can sprinkle one cup of baking soda across the bottom of the dishwasher and leave it overnight. In the morning, start the dishwashing program with an empty load. You can also use a brush to clean hard-to-reach areas.
  • What are the necessary features of a dishwasher?
Size: You should consider your needs and home space to decide between a large dishwasher and a compact one, between a built-in and a free-standing. Electrolux offers a wide range of models with different sizes for you to choose from. If you live in an extended family, a large-capacity built-in dishwasher or a large-capacity free-standing one can be a good choice due to the fact that extended family can take advantage of Electrolux RealLife ™ Dishwasher and XXL-size dishwashing compartments with 15% additional capacity. We also provide lots of compact free-standing dishwashers designed specifically for small families that help to save space yet have full features as a large dishwasher.

Power/Energy consumption: Electrolux applies the most advanced technology to create a modern energy-efficient home. For example, Electrolux ESL5310LO built-in dishwasher with half-load function not only saves you time but also dishwasher detergent and electricity, thus, money.

Noise level: Some types of dishwashers are quieter than the others. If a dishwasher is placed in a closed room, noise is not a big concern. However, if you put the machine in an open space like the kitchen, it worth considering Electrolux ESL5310LO built-in dishwasher as it is the quietest that operates at only 47 dB(A).

Speed and Cycle: Pay attention to the models with customizable speeds and cycles. Some models even come with pre-programmed cycles based on the load you need to wash. Besides, these models also have settings specifically for large cookware such as pots and pans and a separate mode for sophisticated ceramics and wine glasses. Also, most Electrolux dishwashers have a 30-minute QuickPlus program for a faster and more efficient washing process.

With the automatic Electrolux AutoFlex setting, all you need to do is put the dirty dishes into the machine. Then, the dishwasher will automatically select the most suitable water and energy level, helping you to save water, dishwasher detergent, and energy, thus, a cut-down on costs.
  • How to choose the right setup for dishwasher?
The new models often have a pre-program setting for different types of dishes. You can choose from gentle wash for delicate items such as wine glasses or ceramics, intensive wash for pots and pans, regular wash for dishes and utensils and to quick wash for light dirty dishes. Some Electrolux models also have 4 water temperature settings for you to customize according to your needs.
  • How to load and arrange the dishes?
Before placing any dishes in the dishwasher, please ensure that they are dishwasher-safe. Place the dishes from the bottom to the top of the dishwasher. As a general rule, it is advisable to stack large items such as pots and pans down on a rack below. Long objects such as baking trays should be placed on the side to prevent blocking the flow of hot water. Dishes, big and small bowls should be placed in the middle. The top shelf should be used to store glassware such as cups and glasses. You can also place plastic food containers on the top shelf but keep them away from the heating elements of the dishwasher.

Another tip when placing dishes in the dishwasher is to put the dirtiest dishes in the middle of the machine. You may consider selecting Electrolux ESF7530ROX free-standing dishwasher. This model has a FlexiSpray ™ arm that helps increase performance during washing.
  • How to deal with a clogged dishwasher?
The dishwasher is clogged normally because the filter or drain hose is filled with dirt. Accumulated dirt without cleaning may reduce the appliance's performance, causing blockage and unpleasant odours. To deal with a clogged dishwasher, you need to clean the filter and drain out the pipes and the drain valves.

First of all, unplug the dishwasher and take all dishes and racks out. Remove the cylindrical and coarse filter at the bottom of the dishwasher. Once the filters have been disassembled, please check to see anything clogging. Use warm soapy water to clean and wash off any residues from both filters. Once completed, reattach the 2 filters and start a short washing program to check if the problem has been solved.

To drain the water, simply remove the drain hose from the dishwasher and check if it is clogged. Use a long flexible brush to clear the clogged, or use a large pressure washer hose to wash away any residues. Then, start a short washing program to check if the machine is unclogged.
  • Why do I see detergent left in the dishwasher after a washing cycle?

If you see detergent left in the dishwasher after a cycle is complete, try these below steps:

    • Use a good detergent as the old ones may be hard to dissolve.
    • Examine to ensure that the the spray compartment is not clogged so that water can drain out.
    • Check whether the cycle is finished.
    • When putting things in the dishwasher, make sure the drain hose is working properly.
    • Before closing the door, check if the top bracket is attached to the nozzle on the back of the dishwasher.
  • What to do if my dishwasher stop working?
If your dishwasher stop working, you should take a look at the following cases:
    • Broken circuit or blown fuse
    • No water supply
    • Check and adjust the washing cycle
    • "Delay Start" is activated
    • Door is not tightly closed.
